Ok I'd like to make an offical announcement regarding Windows Vista - its shite.

Anybody considering upgrading to it - Dont.
If you are purchasing a new computer in the near future please ensure that it doesn't have Windows Vista installed. I would like to class myself as a fairly experienced technical user (although certain people will say different after calling Dell technical support) however the hassle I have encountered this evening whilst using Vista is astonishing; no drivers are compatible, random stuff doesnt work - blue screen of death during installation of drivers ... the lot.

Anyways I just had to get that off my chest....

He has a valid point...mark that is.

Apart from being utterly shite, its a ridiculous setup too. Vista wants to wipe your arse for you too. Mum's laptops installed with it, personally I wouldn't have but there were no alternatives. It's pretty to look at, as an OS, but that really is about it. Having windows tell you every two seconds that the software your running or the hardware you've just plugged in 'may be unsafe' really isn't helpful when you know exactly what you've been using and you know it's safe.

It also keeps presenting various pop ups etc that just wont go away 'YOU HAVE A L33T MP3 player plugged in....are you sure you want to use this piece of hardware. Windows can check it' etc...

I'm gonna get round to loading linux on this machine one of these days, but for now I'll just stick to xp!

I am dual bootinbg on this machine now with the option of Vista Ultimate (there are ways to disable the whole - "You are about to run an application, do you want Windows to check this for you" - Scenario) and also Suse Linux 10.2.

I think I shall revert back to XP at some point this week.

Hmmm,

You lot obviously never had experience the problems that windows XP had when it first came out.

Its the same when they release any operating system not all the manufacturers release the drivers for their current devices let alone there old ones so nothing works, everyone blames windows when infact it is not thier fault.

I've been advising people to wait for another 2-3 months until Microsoft release the service pack for Vista then get it.

The biggest problem people have with Vista is that the things that most Technical users use has moved or been renamed, but it just takes a bit of getting used to.

I still think Windoze is crap as a whole but when there is no other decent replacement which supports most programs then we as users are kinda screwed!

vista will take more than 2-3 months to sort out the kinks i put it on my comp for an hour and then it was off again as there where no drivers for about 90% of my hardware and i have a big spec computer with all new tch parts just have to run with beta drivers which caused my pci-e Gefroce 7900 to overheat and crash

2-3 months is very ambitious ... realistically I would say 12 months minimum.

I remember the troubles with XP - but Vista is proving a lot worse

Certainly its not that bad in PC World,

It must be Dell's customer service skill that are lacking (again)

Its like buying a car, if you get the first batch of a new model they are always crap.

Give it time. :D
