Dont use Arnold Clark unless you have some sort of fetish for being raped up the arse by old men who employ monkeys to work on their customers cars!

Go get a quote from a small garage that someone you know can reccomend. You will get a far better price, and a far better job done!

hmm, that is what i am worried about. Thing is the variator is a very specialist job and i am more worried about sending it to a garage that has never done one before and them mucking it up. (if not done right then i will lose the timing belt and disaster ensues). If a fiat main dealer does it then if anything goes wrong i have plenty of comeback.

your gettign bum shafted mate i got a quote for a full major service and varitor from my arnold clark for 400 quid as the major service is like 320, i mad a deal that 430 quid sounds about right time u add on the price of the varatior and the extra labour that it wont cost, at the end of the day the engine is in bits anyways so changign the varaitor wont take much longer dont take it to fiat or speak to one of the main mechanics round the back see if they wanted it as a homer to do

Thing is, doing a homer on something like lowering the car or summin is fine, but would you risk it for summin as complex as the variator?

You would have no comeback if something blew up

Exactly, its a major service and variator and to be honest the way Andrew is talking he really wants some back-up incase something goes wrong (and you cant really blame him) so getting a guy from Fiat garage to do a homer might not be the best idea. (especially as the last Fiat homer I saw resulted with upside down springs)

yeah i know i wouldnt get an apprentice to do it thou i get one of the more exsperienced mechanics that actual fits the varitors when fiat do it

just been back to fiat and have managed to shave £100 off.

Basically i am supplying the oil, they aren't doing the brake fluid (72k service item but i am only at 41k), they arent doing the plugs (only 6 months old and i can DIY for £10 and they are leaving the air filter (cos it is only 3 months old.

total saved parts where £80 but he took off £100 (presumably to cover the saved labour from not doing the brakes).

So she is booked in for the 26th! and at £547.08 a bit more than i wanted to pay but hey, it will look good in the service history.

It is being done now as we speak. Can't wait to get it back. I feel so naked without my car.
